Week 9: The Next Big Thing

What is the working title of your book?

The Called Ones (And The Keys of Sinew), the second book in The Called Ones series.

Where did the idea for your book come from?

I have three sons, and we are all fans of superheros. Driving in my van down the road one night, I thought about the one thing that I don't really like about superhero stories. Most all of them have one person (the hero) who is special above all the rest. Of course, there are a few stories of a combined effort that gifts a handful of superheros, but the bottom line is that they are special and most people are not. As I thought about that, I knew that I wanted to write a story that showed that all people born into this world have the power to save it, but as we know, not everyone taps into that. Some people, in fact, use their power for evil; hence, we have a great storyline for good verses evil.

What genre does your book fall under?

Middle grade fantasy

Which actors would you choose to play the characters in your book?
I haven't actually contemplated this question until now

What is the one-sentence synopsis of your book?
Sent on the quest to recover the Keys of Sinew, The Called Ones travel through the Realm of Halanea
collecting the gifts they will need in order to fight The Shadow Walkers and defeat the dark lord Pridious.

Will your book be self-published or represented by an agency?
The hope is to be picked up by a traditional publisher, but at the present time I am planning to self publish.

How long did it take to write your first draft of your manuscript?
It is a work in progress, so it is yet to be completed. I hope to have it finished within the next two months.

What other books would you compare this story to within your genre?
It parallels The Chronicles of Narnia in the sense that I have a group of children who enter another world through a portal, but I also think that it can be compared to Pilgrim's Progress.

Who or what inspired you to write this book?

As I stated earlier, I was inspired to write this story as a result of feeling that our children need to have a book that encourages them to seek to unlock the power they hold within them to save our world.

What else about your book might pique the reader's interest?
The journey that The Called Ones venture on is allegorical of our walk in this world. Anyone interested in stories that show how anyone and everyone can make a difference in our world would enjoy this story as well as the first one in the series, The Called Ones (And The Keys of Sight). Readers who enjoy classic fantasy full of literary devices and vivid descriptions of worlds unseen will enjoy the adventure.
